| It's true. Squid have pushed me off the ladder on several occasions. However, if you could get enough squid to spawn so that the unit cap for sea creatures was filled... Will post results within a week! ('cuz I have, y'know, school) | |

| I don't think that jumping will influence climb speed. Your feet are never in contact with a solid surface while you climb. And lemur, yes, I also believe that the acceleration for a boatavator starts off fast, but the speed is capped. This might be a similar value to the max minecart speed, I don't know, but they might be close, if not equal, values. However, an experiment like that would load too many chunks too fast for my computer, so it would have to be someone else to test it. | |

No, the water-ladder phenomenon is unrelated to swimming, though I HAVE made a design where you do swim up the corner of a column of water. It is quite slow and I wouldn't recommend it. As for the issue of acceleration, I think it doesn't really matter much because of how quickly the cap seems to be reached, though a way to test what the cap is would be to construct a bunch of boatavators of different heights (or use one boatavator which can be easily modified to take you different distances), and then make a graph of "Elapsed time" versus "Boatavator height". However, if we cared enough about what the values actually are, we could probably find them through other means than just experimentation. | |

| Actually, the corner trick works with magma too, in that the magma will still hurt people who touch it in the south-west (?) corner. You could make traps with that, like a fake water ladder. | |

| I have lots of experience with water ladders, and here's a little way to stop at floors which may show a connection with jumping and a special corner water ladder. This is a standard corner water ladder. You simply walk into the corner to go up. This is a water ladder with a 3 tall segment, though a 2 tall one will work as well. When you go up the ladder, you stop at the 2nd floor 3 blocks up, though this can be adjusted. Here you are bouncing between the segment below and the 3 tall segment above. You may exit onto the 2nd floor, or hold space to ascend higher. I use this water ladder in all of my structures since it's cheap, fast, and maintenance free. This is most likely just the full block of falling water which requires you to "swim" up it instead of just holding space. I apologize if the pictures were too big, as I couldn't read the rules due to needing special permissions. |

| I thought boats only collided with blocks themselves, not the torches.... Nonetheless, I shall check if your statement is true or not, it makes sense, since arrows, another entity, can be blocked by torches. | |

| What about a spiral staircase of powered rails? is that faster than stairs? it would only take a 3x3block path.

| What do you mean by a 4-block path? Do you mean a 2x2 footprint? I'm fairly sure you can't do that with rails, since they can't turn and elevate at the same time. Also problematic is that (so far as I know) turning corners costs you speed.
As for spiral staircases though, those you can make in a 2x2 footprint ever since stairs stopped auto-aligning. WDSAWDSAWDSAWDSA and you've gone up 16 levels. | |
